This is an Eagle pendant I was able to make from some scrap pieces.

Some fun pieces are now in the works. The Raven design I came up with can now be transferred to silver. I tried to keep it traditional and now it can be used many times. I I have been able to start an Eagle pendant that was free handed with a marker on to the silver. I’m gaining confidence these pieces would have been a bit more intimidating when I was first starting. This art form definitely commands lots of focus which is cool when you feel like you’re getting in the flow.

My tools are coming together I received a jewelers kit that has many items that are needed for jewelering. I’m getting the hang of how the different gravers work. I feel fortunate that Jenny encourages that I keep to the traditional technique and take the time to carve each piece with detail. Many of the tools make specific cuts and I’m learning more about each one also they come in many different sizes I’m learning what works best for myself.
This has been a good and culturally rich winter. Practicing this art form brings me closer to my ancestors. The more I learn the more respect I have for the art form. Learning silver engraving and also going to Lingit language class has been good for the soul. We’ve got a good little community and I hope we can continue to get together and it’s more common.
