Rings. As a jewelry artist, rings, is one of the most sought after request I get from potential buyers. With this apprenticeship I’ve been lucky enough to learn the progress of making rings. For the last month our focus has been rings, meeting twice a week at either my shop or Greg’s. Learning how to plan/design, start, form, and finally finish a ring. With Greg’s help, we made 9 rings together working with both copper and silver. With what I’ve learned, I was able to complete 1 ring on my own. The copper saddle ring called Spirit Face.

Making rings is challenging in many ways, making sure to create a design big enough to engrave on a small surface, cutting out the template of the ring, and joining the ends together. Finding ways to work out those challenges was achieved with many different approaches. I would call Greg and talk through the difficulties I ran into and he would offer guidance and suggestions on how to work through it. If I still couldn’t get passed the challenge, it waited until we met again. Then together we would work out the problem, sometimes it worked and with one ring we couldn’t. Accepting that we would have to start over didn’t feel like a failure… without failure you can’t achieve success.

I feel pretty good with what I have made this last month.
