I have heard of Chilkat Robes as being called the “veil between the worlds.” I couldn’t help but think of those words early on, especially sitting there and looking at my warp hanging from my loom.  It looked lonely without the weft being woven through it yet.  I often find myself thinking of all of those who have gone ahead of us, family as well as friends.

A family photo from my parent’s album. Seen from left to right: Grandma Rosemary Giannetto, Dad David, Grandma Edna, my mom Teresa Land, and Great-Grandma Jennie Thlunaut in front. All but my mom have passed-on. Grandma Rosemary used to say to me, “Gwen don’t neglect your heritage. You need to learn it for yourself and your children.” She was right.

Early on, I started noticing all of the life that takes place behind my loom as I sit and weave, so I started taking quick little snapshots of moments that are easy to take for granted.  The pictures aren’t spectacular, in fact they are rather mundane, but to me they are the world.  I thought I would share some of them with you.  I notice the changing of seasons, the growth of my family, the growth in my weaving and I am thankful.  They also serve as a reminder to me to simultaneously remember the past and cherish the present.
